Data Processing Group Report for the Week of Feb. 19-23 Our linux computer arrived and is installed in rm. 6283D at SAL (Brian and Marilyn's office). It is a Dell dual-processor 933MHz. It's name is oort.astro.wisc.edu. We decided to name the new computers after Galactic pioneers. Contact Barbara Whitney if you would like an account. Babler learned more about IRAF & DAOPHOT, compiled a list of reduction/ photometry packages (Daophot, Dophot, Starman, SPS, SExtractor, Pisa), downloaded DoPHOT and manual. Esquival, a new team member, started reading about the project. Meade downloaded the latest version of the fitsio package (a subroutine interface to FITS format files - for fortran programmers) and installed it on the new linux machine. Meade wrote some fortran programs (using the fitsio package) that read in MSX & WFPC image fits files, counted masked pixels and called a dummy routine to retrieve a zodiacal light flux, then created a new FITS file with the image, the original keywords and additional keywords for the zodiacal light and masked pixel information. Whitney developed a 3-D disk+envelope+cavity radiative equilibrium code, but didn't do much on the data processing side. Wolff re-engineered his core processes in order to better meet the overall goals of the GLIMPSE Team; engaged in team building exercises with the IRAC database group; communicated positively in an effort to get our needs met in regards to SSC. Wolff also created some test data out of WFPC2 images. Wolfire continued work on Zodi, and will report about it in the telecon.
