Minutes for Telecon for October 7, 2003 Present: Churchwell, Whitney, Meade, Indebetouw, Clemens, Kobulnicky, Watson, Marston, Babler, Wolfire, Cohen, Stauffer, Mathis, Laurance Next telecon: Tuesday Nov 4 11 am CST 608-265-1000 #4112 IOC data received! We received IOC data Monday evening (Oct 6) and pushed it through our pipeline. Some of us stayed up most of the night working on this. It was a 4 x 41 frame AOR centered at about l=42.0 and b=+0.5. It was one of our AORs but they moved the center and shortened it. There is a kmag = 0 star in this field. SSC wanted to do a test on latency with the GLIMPSE survey strategy. They were worried about GLIMPSE bright objects. They had been seeing longer latency in Ch 1. The conclusion was GLIMPSE will not hurt others, after about an hour. latency is dependent on integration time so our short integrations are not too bad a problem. The data was not at its final focus yet but it was close. It was observed on Oct 3, 2003. We got 656 frames in all. Dan would like the data to test their extended source algorithms. Ed will ask Tom Soifer. (update, 10/22/03, we have to wait another week or so. Also we haven't got the data in a form BU can use yet). Updates: Bi-weekly IOC/SV telecons - Ed There will be a bi-weekly telecon chaired by Nancy Silverman to discuss the status of the telescope and all instruments. 12:30 CST, Fridays Oct 3,17,31. Minutes will be posted on the Legacy web site. email nancys@ipac.caltech.edu if you wish to participate. John Stauffer involvement with OSV data reductions - John Stauffer We may get OSV a couple days after the data taking. John will come here in November for a tutorial. Identifications of objects in OSV and W51 fields - Chip, Brian U. & Travis Brian U. has some results on his web site: http://physics.uwyo.edu/~uzpen/research.htm He has collected 2MASS magnitudes and fluxes and overlay of OSV image also MSX, Tycho I,II, Michigan Spectral Atlas, Hipparcos, Guide Star Cat, and more. A proposal was submitted to the AAT to observe ~700 stars in our OSV area, a similar project to what was done by WIYN for W51. First GLIMPSE documents for SSC - Bob & Marilyn & Barb Data Products doc and Science & Data Requirements doc - hope to have done soon. Specific benchmarks for OSV Observations - Team We have an early draft of the OSV decision tree. We need to update this and get input from the rest of the team. Pipeline Status - Remy It worked on the IOC data! We still have WCS issues to address, miscellaneous programming to do. Banding estimate image and banding flag, first cut, is written but not in the pipeline yet. Saturated star wing flag and correction is being worked on. We want to be sure LevelsA-E (photometry from single frames and mosaic for product) are working..that is our priority. We also are working on Levels F & G (mosaic photometry and final bandmerging). We want to check the flux calibration of the IOC data... Martin will provide us some flux calibration stars in our IOC field to compare with what we get. CRP Simulations - Christer A small set of simulated data was run through the pipeline in an automatic way. Previously there was a lot of handholding. The saturated star flagger (and image masking) is needed in the pipeline. Much software has been written post-pipeline. Once the sim data is run through the pipeline with the sat stars masked out, we should be able to make a lot of progress. On the small dataset, at 1 mJy band 1 ...cumulative R=99.5%. Status: Extended Source Extraction Algorithm - Dan, Emily Dan & Emily have an algorithm running to identify small clusters and associations. It characterizes shape and number. They are using 2mass data. They need some residual images. Remy says he's given them to Emily. Visits to Madison to give feedback on QLVT & Pipeline - Team The middle 2 weeks of November (Nov 10-14, Nov 17-21) would be good weeks for team members to visit to learn about the QLVT and the pipeline. Progress on planning for Science from OSV Observations - Team In the OSV area, there are 8 or 9 O stars, 2 WRs (WN7). We have velocity data in this region and it is measured to be 0. so the distance is probably between 2.7 and 5 KPC. Ed will send a list of references around. Timetable for Special ApJ issue - Ed Nov 24: SV complete Jan 16: Tentative Article list (only 2 wks after receiving data) Mar 26: Manuscripts due at ApJ Letters office June 1: Acceptance cycle complete June 15: SIRTF issue published on Web July 1: Paper edition of issue appears We would like 3 or 4 ApJ GLIMPSE data letters. Science Advisory Telecon - Ed Ed met members of the c2d team at a meeting in Switzerland. We agreed to put our color-color data on our Team pages and they will too. There is a telecon between GLIMPSE and c2d folks this Friday 10:30 am. The Science Advisory Telecon with Ed, John M & Dan is Fri Oct 24 9 am CDT.
