Minutes for Telecon for Oct 09, 2002 Present: Churchwell, Benjamin, Meade, Indebetouw, Dickey, Babler, Clemens, Whitney, Wolfire, Watson, Marston, Wolff, Stolovy, Cohen Next telecon: *Wednesday* Oct 23, 2002, 11 am CDT, 608-265-1000 #4112 Budget Ed Ed got budget numbers late last week. All institutions except the UW will stay the same until the end of year. UW - probably OK. Not having a fall team meeting will save $$. Ed got the budgets for the next 3 years. We will have reduced budgets for the first 9 months of 2003 - a 13.4% reduction. We will get a return of the 13.4% later. Telecon with SSC Ed The telecon has been set up with SSC for Oct 30 to discuss C&R. Bandmerger problems and possible work arounds Remy The bandmerger has some problems. We have written lots of programs which call the bandmerger many times. We need to be able to merge several tens of bands. Still running into software bugs. The SSC bandmerger crashes occasionally. Remy has "fixed" some of the bugs. There are 3000-4000 lines of code in the SSC bandmerger. Problems occur more frequently at 6-7 bands. So Remy re-wrote our software to do 4 bands at a time. SSC says they know it has problems but they won't be able to work on it until November. November is the Operational Flight Readiness Review and the Post-BCD products are not part of this review. Tony will look into this more. Tony has allocated one more person on his team to learn about the post-BCD software. Is a quick fix possible? Remy sent test files to Dave Shupe at SSC.. 2 sets of data - one case produces erroneous data (not doing duplicate pointings right) and one case that bombs. Progress on the Pipeline Barb & Marilyn Mosaicing .. new version of Montage works on Linux and they fixed a bug with the cylindrical projections. We are continuing to work on the bandmerge software and will start putting these processes in the pipeline. We will need information on banding as early as possible. We may need a larger overlap if a stripe in band 4 is a problem. Flagging stray light is not an automatic check. The QLVT may be used to mark the problem data. Bright sources off a corner of the camera may cause stray light. The new SPOT will show where the bright spot has to be to cause the stray light. Their own Quality Analysis will/hopes to flag these areas in a table file, not a mask file. We could check the table and if necessary, throw the data into the QLVT. Progress on the QVLT Mark A new version is out for our inspection. Hardware 2 more processors have been ordered and 1 more RAID array ordered. We have money to order more hardware. We may get larger RAID arrays at the same price at the end of the year. Schedule for document release Ed Want to release the 2 documents by the end of the month. Please send comments to John M ASAP. Other issues AAS - Bob & Remy will work on a GLIMPSE poster for the Seattle AAS meeting. Calibrators - Martin says he has enough calibrators for the 55-65 deg area. He hasn't had time to look at the WIYN data yet but Art Code has agreed to.
