Minutes for Telecon for Aug 20, 2002 Present: Churchwell, Benjamin, Meade, Indebetouw, Stolovy, Cohen, Babler, Clemens, Mathis, Watson, Whitney, Marston, Ashman Next telecon: *Wednesday* Sept 11, 2002, 11 am CDT, 608-265-1000 #4112 What's going on at SSC? Tony Instrument MIPS team is having a problem with SCANMAP...160 microns IRAC: Still low level noise. Might be associated with the charging unit for solar arrays. Our bkg level may be high enough so this won't be a problem. Can be removed on an individual basis but not as an automatic process. IOC - having people on site. SSC has been working on finding space for people. There should be limited space for members of the Legacy teams. Getting IOC data to Legacy teams still needs to be worked out. We probably want Remy at IOC for part of the time...towards the end of IOC. We are most interested in getting images to help us characterize banding and possibly the low level noise. Tony would like a writeup of who, what, when for IOC data, who would be there when...get him this information by end of Sept if possible. We need an idea of the IOC schedule, which tests might occur when, to give us an idea of when we should be there. The telescope will be cooling...IOC will be finished about 60 days after launch...(nominal schedule). Day 45 and onward might be a good time to be there. Status of the M16 ERO. Officially the proposal has been placed on the final list for the late April 2003 time period. Unofficially there is a concern that ISO did good imaging in this region.. For visual effect, SIRTF may look similar to ISO. No final decision has been made. NASA HQ makes the decision. Positional refinement using 2MASS Data SSC approach? Susan Susan is peripherally involved. She sent an updated version of the BCD header. There are extra keywords in the header...which are used in the mosaic stage. Assume all position refinements are done independently...they are not bootstrapping between bands. 2MASS positional accuracy is about 0.2 arcsec. MSX - pointing accuracy is 2-3 arcsec. They will be issuing a v2.0 PSC possibly this year. Status of Calibration sources Martin & Remy Do we have sources for the first set of AORs? Our first segment is about l=50 deg to 65 deg. Plus the W51 region which is our science verification observation. Remy's list had ~850 stars. Martin's program is working and also uses Kurucz models. Have access to broader range of objects. A, now F, G, K dwarfs. K & M giants. The mechanism is in place in his programs. Tycho 2 is better than Tycho 1. A 11th mag K star (V) is 6th-7th for IRAC bands. close to saturation. The northern sky is more sparsely populated. WIYN observations in the W51 region...observed 180 stars. Have preliminary types for all 180 stars. Web site has the information. Remy sent Martin more accutare coordinates for the calibrators. Martin needs access to the 2MASS data. John Carpenter is a contact person at 2MASS. New 2MASS data is to be released by Oct 1. MSX paper in MNRAS: Lumstan, Hora, et al. Preprint in astro-ph. Status of GLIMPSE Documents Review of delivery dates Need to work on the Science and Data Requirements Document and the Data Products Document. They need to be in prior to the call for GO proposals which is 11/08/02. Said we would deliver v1.0 around L-3 (Oct 2002). A list of documents, the latest versions of the docs, leads and delivery dates, can be found on the GLIMPSE team page: http://www.astro.wisc.edu/sirtf/Team/ Boston Meeting next spring Ed & Dan Main topics to include, invitees, etc. (ideas) Butler Burton and Martin Weinberg have agreed to jpin the SOC. The BU folks will set up a web site soon. It will be a 2.5 day event, June 15 -17, 2002 (Sunday - Tuesday). Up-date on simulations & source extractions Brian & Remy The new DAOPHOT scripts are being verified. DAOPHOT extraction times similar to SSC PSE on shapley. Will send the SSC an image for them to run with their PSE, since we are not expert on their PSC. Send the test images to Susan. We will use the best PSE available. Remy has been studying the bandmerger. May want to use S/N criteria in crowded fields. Modifying DAOPHOT to produce position errors, which are used in the bandmerger.
