Minutes for Telecon for July 23, 2002 Present: Benjamin, Kobulnicky, Meade, Whitney, Indebetouw, Babler, Clemens, Mathis, Dickey, Wolff, Wolfire, Ashman Next telecon: Tuesday Aug 06, 2002, 11 am CDT, 608-265-1000 #4112 Ed and Christer are travelling to Arecibo today. Recent IRAC Tests: Implications for GLIMPSE - Mike Low Level Noise spikes It's a serious problem they are hoping to correct in hardware. There may be confusion for faint sources. Can fit after the fact but hard to find in the star field... but it doesn't look like a PSF. Up-Link Volume => our AORs are too large by ~2 times SSC found that assumptions of the time it takes to uplink is ~10 times longer than previously thought. The problem is at the AOR level and the total upload capacity. They don't know enough about this yet. The new version of SPOT (6.1) will give an estimate of the uplink volume. Teams will be contacted as to which AORs will need to be reworked. A letter with recommendations for a solution is supposed to be coming from SSC. We will work with Tony on this. Status Reports on: Simulations Remy We have new simulations of the W51 region. Using the new Matt Ashby ISDS (v 20020515) and new psfs. It uses the MSX diffuse bkg and the 2MASS Point Source Catalog. And a source distribution to match Martin Cohen's SKY. An 4 x 20 frames AOR was created, then run 4 more times using the random shot noise option in the ISDS. We should be able to get typical cases and worst cases with this simulated data. Dense and less dense areas in the W51 region are in the simulated data. Source Extractions Brian DAOPHOT on band 4 is running better now. Pipeline Barb We have installed the SSC bandmerger and mosaicer on shapley (the sun). We haven't tried compiling them on linux yet. They were not promised to be able to be run on linux...we do have the source code. SSC would like to know if we make any changes to the codes. The new sets of W51 simulated data will be a good test of the QLVT and the pipeline. SIRTF Calibration Document (Reach doc) Implementation of color corrections in the pipeline Team Do we want to color correct our magnitudes? We never said we would. SSC will provide a correction table. The spectral response function is electrons/photons. Need to divide by nu. In our pipeline, for the zodiacal light modelling, we need to convert to what they call flux. 2MASS Reliability and Completeness Remy Implications for GLIMPSE How 2MASS did it is not clear. For 2MASS, if you see a source > half the time, then it's a true source. Remy sent out a document on reliability formulae that was discussed. R = #true sources/#all sources R = (# sources seen >=M times) / (#sources) if each source is detected m_i times... R = (sum over sources with m_i>=M){m_i}/(sum over i){m_i} We need to simulate seeing a source twice, 3 times, etc. Do 8 or 10 simulations and evaluate the reliability and try bandmerging. To reach 99.5 R, do we require seeing a source in 2 bands or see in 3 bands (1,2,3 & not in band 4) We originally said for our GBSC, the source should be seen in all 4 bands. SSC is worried about the presence of spurious sources. They are not as concerned about completeness. Will they release our "database"? We need to get the bandmerger going to get a better idea of internal reliability. We need to automate our post-processing...the position refinement and bandmerging. Person at SSC during IOC/Sci. Verification Team Best time and for how long? Remy may be there at the end of IOC and during SV. Will need a desk. May be there a week to a month?? Depends on the IOC schedule. WIYN observations/REU summer student Chip Our REU student Travis is classifying spectra taken at WIYN for about 200 objects in the W51 region.
