Minutes for Telecon for Feb 26, 2002 Present: Churchwell, Whitney, Watson, Meade, Stolovy, Dickey, Marston, Indebetouw, Babler, Kobulnicky, Wolff, Benjamin Next telecon: Tuesday March 12, 2002, 11 am CST, 608-265-1000 #4112 PSEs--Anything new on SSC's PSE? Are we still getting variable results? Susan ran the SSC PSE on NICMOS data... ~5000 sources on 500 x 500 images. It does give different answers each time you run it because it uses a random number generator for some nonlinear fitting functions. The program can be modified to give the same answer but this is not desirable if you want to estimate errors. What would be nice is to be able to freeze the initial random number seed so you reproduce the same results during testing. Dave Shupe is the SSC contact person. Any feedback from SSC on processing of our raw simulated IRAC data through the SSC pipeline? SSC is using our simulated data (provided by Remy) in the testing of their pipeline. Will we be getting the mask files from the output of the SSC pipeline, along with a calibrated image? Tony will check. There has been no official decision on the WCS keywords. It may be a SIRTF specific distortion representation in the header. August is the release date for pipeline version 6.2. Can we get banding data .. the actual images containing banding? (Access to banding data was posted on the Legacy IRAC website on Feb 27.) SSC is redoing the mosaicer. We probably won't get access to it until June when it is released. We may get the IRSA mosaicer by the end of March. Science Specification Document--due by 8 March latest Tony sent a revised document about the WRs. Ed & Barb--Modification of SF section underway Bob, John D & the BU folks will write up a Galactic Structure section. ERO of M16--Any further discussion of this needed? Only ~40 targets in all for the 4 hr block of time set aside for ERO. Would be done during the science verification period. GLIMPSE team would be part of the ERO team if Tony is the lead. We would get access to the data and it would be an early experience with the pipeline. We will get the time back...our survey won't be touched. It also would illustrate cooperation with the SSC-ERO-Legacy Teams. IRAC GTO team has M16 in one of their target areas. Ed will talk to Tom Megeath. IRAC status Information from the tests in Boulder. PSF is better than expected. The point image is very good. Channels 1,2 & 3 are more sensitive. Saturation will occur on weaker sources... Confusion is improved. (New PSFs were made available on the IRAC Legacy website 3/6/02.) AORs for Verification Observations Need to submit the 10 hr. verification AORs by April 1 along with the reasoning behind our strategy. In the new version of SPOT our survey gained 27 hours...mainly because of faster slews. Can send AORs to Tony and he can run them through the new SPOT. The new SPOT will be released April 15. Team web page--Objects of interest in the GLIMPSE survey region Bob has put together a web site... Objects in the GLIMPSE survey region. See http://wisp11.physics.wisc.edu/~benjamin/glimpse/glimpseobj.html (There is a link to it from the GLIMPSE team links page: http://www.astro.wisc.edu/sirtf/Team/links.html.) So far it includes HII regions, Planetary nebulae, galaxies, SNRs, open clusters, Wolf-Rayets and OB stars.
