March 21-22 team meeting in Madison
Note that the men's NCAA basketball tournament regional
games will be played in Madison on March 22 & March 24.
Ed will try to get a block of rooms for out-of-town
GLIMPSErs ASAP.
SSC May Review discussion
We discussed the items to be addressed by the team in the
SSC Data Products Review in May, as given in the email
from Michael Bicay...
(1) Deliverables
Need to provide detailed description of products, requirements,
supporting documentation, delivery mode, estimate of size, anything
else that's relevant
(a) List of SIRTF Post-Pipeline Data Products
- GLIMPSE Catalogs
We will be delivering a GLIMPSE Bright Source Catalog (flux limited) & a GLIMPSE
Point Source Catalog (best effort). Delivering in intervals of ?? months.
We won't be delivering an Extended Source Catalog or software
tools for extended source analysis.
- Mosaiced Images for each Band
- We won't be delivering a simple image viewer tool since IRSA will provide that.
Need to check with SSC through Tony ahead of time to be sure SSC knows what we
won't be delivering. We need to make sure we address the original proposal
and say variances have been given. Barb said that we have given our revised
data products list to the Data Products Working Group. There were a couple of
slides about this in Ed's presentation to the SSC in the September Review but
they need more detail.
(b) List of Ancillary Datasets and/or Products
We didn't promise to deliver any ancillary data sets.
There will be a GBT/Arecibo survey of UC HII candidates in our GLIMPSE region.
The proposals have been approved and data should be taken this winter/spring.
(c) List of Complementary Datasets and/or Products
HI galactic plane survey -
13CO survey - can Jim write something up for the SSC presentation?
NVSS survey -
Check with BU folks and John Dickey for info for SSC presentation
Since we're not the primary pushers on the VLA 6 cm survey, we probably shouldn't
bring this up.
(d) Software Tools Development
Do we want to deliver the Zodi model and QLVT to the SSC for general use?
Mark wrote both of these. The QLVT is GLIMPSE pipeline specific.
Consensus is that we don't want to promise these as a general user tool.
We don't want to have to provide support.
Remy notes that the QLVT uses the MSX and 2MASS databases
of the GLIMPSE region only. We won't have those datasets outside our area..an
added complication. But we do want to reciprocate as much as we can
so the software can be made available to the IRAC instrument team and
other Legacy teams "as is". I believe the Zodi model has already been
offered to the SSC...?
Any other software? Our AOR-writer is probably too specific to our project
to be of use to others.
(e) Simulations/Modeling Results and/or Other Data Products
Mark feels the IR toolshed belongs in this category since he won't be
delivering the software to the community. He hasn't started making
it SIRTF specific yet. Mark will write this up for the presentation,
including an image.
We are/will be running simulations using the IRAC simulator and the 2MASS catalog
to measure completeness and reliability.
(2) Delivery Schedules
Need our revised delivery schedules and supporting documents.
We would like this info on our team web page before the March meeting.
(3) Implementation Plans
(a) Required Software/Processing/Analysis
Barb, Remy, Mike, Marilyn
(b) Management Plan
Mike, Barb, Remy
(c) Quality Assurance
Remy, Marilyn, Brian
Collaborations with other Legacy Science teams and/or SIRTF instrument teams
Have there been any collaborations in the Working Groups? What about
scientific collaborations? Lee Mundy, Neil Evans ... Mosaicing. Ed will
check with them to see if there are any possible useful collaborations.
DAOPHOT study using 2MASS data
Brian has been studying 2MASS data in a crowded field using DAOPHOT and comparing
the results of DAOPHOT with the 2MASS Point Source Catalog. See
http://www.astro.wisc.edu/sirtf/Team/Processing/2mass_comparison.
DAOPHOT reproduces the results well. Positions and magnitudes compare
well with 2MASS.
Next is to test DAOPHOT on our simulated IRAC images from Ashby's IRAC
simulator and the 2MASS PSC.
Our survey's robustness is a worry of the SSC. Will this come up at the
Data Products Review?
Task Schedule progress check
Science breakpoints.
Ed & Barb hope to have something on SEDs by the end of this week.
Tony will work on WRs.
NEED input from rest of group ASAP. send to Remy.
Acquire SSC PSE, bandmerger, mosaicer - Mike
We have a beta version of SSC's mosaicer... not exactly working.
Will get a new version soon. IRSA has its own mosaicer up & running.
We will get access to IRSA mosaicer soon. It has been tested on 2MASS data.
We hope to get the SSC PSE this week. No news on the bandmerger.
Calibration stars - Remy - has been done
Redesigning tables & keywords for database - Mike - progress is being made
Ingest 2MASS data into database - Mike - not yet
Install new version of OPUS on solaris and linux machines - Mike
Installed on both but not completely working yet. Need this new version for its
linux capability. The solaris version of the new OPUS has been the problem.
Produce large set of BCD data - Barb, Remy
Have capability of producing large amounts of calibrated images using
IRAC simulator and 2MASS PSC. Creation of ancillary data files (bad pixel maps,
cr masks, etc) in progress.
It would be very useful to get more info from SSC about their BCD products.
If we produce a set of data, Tony says he will walk it through the SSC
pipeline.
Level A & Level B programming - Marilyn - Progress is being made
Data Specification Document - Remy - need to get info to Remy
Revise Pipeline Flowchart - Barb, Marilyn
Next time (Jan 29) we will discuss validation observations and observing schemes.
The W51 region was selected as one of the regions, depending on
the launch date. Need suggestions for another region in the other part
of the galaxy. Chip & Christer will bring criteria for validation
observations for discussion. We also need to think about how complete &
accurate we need to be to declare a successful survey. Presumably
that goes into the Data Specs Doc.
