Telecon Minutes of 9 October 2001

TEAM PRESENT: Churchwell,Whitney, Indebetouw, Kobulnicky, Benjamin,
    Babler, Meade,Mathis
TEAM BY TELECON: Clemens, Bania, Wolfire, Dickey, Marston

AORs have been submitted and verified by SSC.

Discussion of first areas to be observed
Apr-May 2003 covers 25-45 degrees. This is where our first science
will come from if current launch schedules hold.

People on the team should send in a list of most interesting science
goals that we could do early in the survey.
Bring these ideas to next meeting and send Ed an email detailing
   them.

Robustness of survey:
Remy: we need to decide the format of the initial observation
which will be used to test out our strategy.
Also think about what our catalog will look like.
We'll know more about banding after next week when Remy
talks to Tom McGath further. It sounds like banding will be
our worst probelm. It does not seem to be repeatable
and they don't have a correction for it.
We need more info from the Instrument team about banding

Dan: we need to produce a data description document for the
public that describes our data. The data subcommittee should
  work on this description.

Local committee will get together and discuss what to do with the
  first 10 hours of data.

Barb: We are hoping to get a hold of Matt Ashby's program to
  simulate IRAC data.
Ed will talk to SSC and impress upon them that we need this
  software to simulate data.
Tony: This program has been through testing and is being cleaned
up before being made available. Stay tuned.

Dan: we really need to simulate confusion limited data
He estimates 6 million sources in the entire survey
  using 1 source/20 beam areas.

Barb: pipeline uses DAOPHOT right now; they have DAOPHOT
working on linux machines. They have modified pipeline
to work with .imh files that DAOPHOT expects.
Tony: Positional info in headers should be sufficient to
  correct for distortions
Barb: we are going to start putting MSX and 2mass data into
  headers and exercising database
Photometry: Good agreement between our and SSC's source extractor.

We need to read the 2MASS confusion document to understand how
their issues transfer to our survey

Remy: do we know anything about the stability of the PSF?
Tony: PSF does not vary, although it will be measured again
PSF may vary with color of object since bands are broad

We should ask Martin Cohen what the angular fidelity of his sampling
is and whether we can get a galaxy model that we can use to
simulate irac data.

Mark Wolfire: is working on quick look validation tool
Will be useful for the team. Must see it in action.
Will do equatorial or galactic overlays, scaled images,
    will overlay MSX sources too.

Barb is going on vacation and Chip and Christer need a break, so
not much may get done for a couple of weeks.
