Notes from telecon August 28.
NEXT TELCON: SEPT. 11, 1100 CDT. Present: Babler, Bania, Benjamin, Churchwell, Dickey, Esquivel, Indebetouw, Kobulnicki, Marston, Mathis, Meade, Seager, Watson, Whitney, Wolff, Wolfire I. Report on IRAC Senior Review (Wolff): (1.) the impact of shutterless operations is complicated, but the group was "cautiously optimistic" (a frequently used phrase at the meeting) that the net effects will be OK, with minuses balanced by plusses. The big complication is with the calibration. (2.) Latency corrections: the GLIMPSE team has little to worry about, with our 2 sec integrations. Our biggest concern is minimizing our effect on any observations in a very dark field, such as the Hubble Deep Field, immediately following us in time. We need to calculate the effects of the worst-case scenario. Note: the bias voltages to IRAC may be changed in the future. II. Legacy Science Working Group (Churchwell): (1.) There is a 99.9% chance that launch will slip 6 - 8 months. The problem is replacing a vital part concerning the secondary mirror. Level funding will occur, so the contracts of our people will be extended. The telescope will be warmed, but the instruments will not. (2). Shutterless operation will take place. (3.) We will still have to meet the original milestones. We may be able to look at our AORs after Feb. 2002. (4). There seems to be few problems with overlap with GTO proposals, partly because of our short exposure times. There is some overlap with Evans, but the exposure time differences probably remove it. Their team is happy not to embargo our exposures. We will hope that SSC will concur. III. The rest of the long telecon was devoted to a slid-by-slide discussion of the presentations of Churchwell, Kobulnicki, and Whitney to the review on Sept. 5. Several suggestions were made. Team members were urged to email any additional changes (the slides are posted on the Web). There will be a meeting of the Madison presenters on Thursday, 30 Aug, to tweak the slide presentation.
