GLIMPSE Teleconference Minutes of 03 April 2001
TEAM PRESENT: Churchwell, Benjamin, Kobulnicky, Meade, Babler, Hoffman,
Whitney, Watson, Alejandro
By TELECON: Clemens, Wolfire, Marston
Observing Strategy
------------------
We will have preliminary AORs to submit by Friday April 6
AORs should be submitted to SIRTF desk. sirtf@ipac and cc tmarston
Preliminary IRAC schedule shows IRAC on 3-7 days every 2 weeks.
see the http://www.astro.wisc.edu/sirtf/Team/Figs/ page for a text
explanation and figures of the observing strategy
Tony says 6-10% is recommended overlap for IRAC mapping
Tony says 3 min overhead is not applied to each AOR if we
chain AORs together, so we're fine. Effectively the 3 min
AOR tax is only applied once per segment. Cool!
There are two modes of spacecraft pointing.
Gyro drift is few arcsec every few hours. So our any given segment
can be performed within 3 hours!
Gyro offset mode of move is quick, headers may not be accurate.
Star tracker mode requires time to acquire.
Observing Issues to be resolved:
--------------------------
We need to decide on a target to observe for our first look observations.
somewhere near l>45 deg to be observed in ~October 2002.
In order to optimize our AOR production software,
we need a formula or lookup table of roll angles as a function of date
Can Tony get this for us? He'll try.
We need a firm guideline on recommended overlap between IRAC frames
Currently we use 15 pixels
Software Policy
-------------------
We need a policy so that software developers have an understudy
so that expertise is not lost if a member leaves the team.
We agreed that each author of software is responsible for documenting it
and teaching at least one other person how to use it.
Web page policy
------------------
Whenever we add new stuff to web page it MUST have a date attached
so that browsers like us can see what's new and what's old
LOGO
----------
We like the smoothed airbrushed one. But we want to revserse the
wedges so that the section we observe is clear and in color, and the
sections of the Galactic plane we will not observe should be
shaded, or black&white.
Report on IRAC working group
------------------------------
see http://ssc-et.ipac.caltech.edu/SSC/Legacy/
LSWG
N@irobi
IRAC pipeline working group will meet once per month. Telecon minutes
are available online. There is interest in IRAC simulators.
This should be of interest to all the teams.
IRAC pipeline is in progress. They (SSC) want to know why
we want access to the pipeline and which segments
of the pipeline we want access to, if any.
E/PO proposals
----------------
Need an activity plan for 5 year period, beginning this summer.
Other Notes
------------------
Dan will be sitting on the SIRTF Science Users Panel if we want
any issues addressed through that.
