GLIMPSE Teleconference Minutes of 20 Mar 2001

TEAM PRESENT: Churchwell, Benjamin, Kobulnicky, Meade, Babler,
	Jennifer Hoffman, Joe Cassinelli
By TELECON: Marston, Jackson, Clemens

Ed will send Jim a draft of extended abstract for proofreading

VARIABLE EXPOSURE TIMES & CONFUSION LIMITS
Martin Cohen ran models to
test confusion limits and finds that we will be confusion limited in
the (at l=15 from 3.6-8.0 microns 1.75-.8 mJy is our confusion limit.
Thus, in the inner
galaxy we will be confusion limited with 2 s exposures. at l>50,
especially in 8 micron band, we may be flux limited with 2 s
integrations.

Tony says HDR mode will not happen as planned, but likely exposure
times of 1.6 s are being considered. Would 1.6 s do for us? Probably
not. Chip thinks we don't have enough data to tell whether 2,3, or 4 s
is the optimal exposure time. We had a concensus that 2 s was the best
choice of exposure times at the moment.

ZODI MODEL
People are interested in the zodi model that we are
developing. The IRAC team is interested. We have to get
permission to release zodi model from Ned Wright.

INTEREST GROUPS
What topics are we interested in discussion? Position
registration using 2MASS data? Mosaicing beyond individual AORS?
People have been designated to start participating in these
working groups. Barb and Mark are on the Post-pipeline
and data products group. Mike and Chip are in the IRAC pipeline Group.

UPDATE ON OBSERVING STRATEGY
Chip and Christer (mostly CHrister) have a clever program to spit out
AORs. We are confident that we'll be able to deliver preliminary AORs
in April.

There is a data volume problem in several
areas with other programs, so we should be aware that there may be an
increased amount of time for downlinks so that we don't have to
constrain the observations quite so much.

Upper limits to length of time instruments will be on are 5 days for
IRAC. Biggest gaps between campaigns will be 2 weeks. The schedule of
instrument operation is in a state of flux, so we won't know the
schedule that IRAC will operate on until 2002.

POST-PIPELINE PROCESSING
Mark has installed COBE analysis software, and
there is some question of whether cirrus clouds or Zodi dominate. At 8
um cirrus emission is roughly equiv to zodi. At 3-5 um zodi dominates.

There is a difference between Kelsall and Wright zodi models which
needs to be explored.

Marilyn & Barb created test data for 1 IRAC band, have a document on the
website which lists the stats of the simulated data. They already have
a program that will shift and rotate images.

BROWSER FOR MSX-2MASS;
At some future point we need to develop a tool
to view the entire survey region. from MSX fits images, and perhaps
2MASS images. At least for the purpose of making pretty posters. But
for now we don't want to sink too much time into it.

SECOND 6 MONTH BUDGET CYCLE All
groups talk to Ed about what costs/time
involvement you anticipate for the next 6 months.

TELECON FREQUENCY
every 2 weeks is enough for the near future

LOGO We are looking for a spiral galaxy which is likely to look most
like the Milky Way so that we can superimpose the survey slices on that
image.

EXTENDED ABSTRACT
Ed will get a draft to Jim.

JUNE AAS SIRTF
special session at Pasadena; Tom and Jim are planning on
going, and Bob and Ed from Wisconsin. Ed will give a talk on the
survey.

Tony adds that IRAC interest group has a telecon, Thursday, Mar 22nd,
11 a.m. Pacific time. See Tony if you want to phone in and
participate. Barb and Mark should plan to participate if possible.
