Teleconference Minutes of 27 Feb 2001
TEAM PRESENT: Churchwell, Watson, Meade, Babler, Benjamin, Esquivel, Whitney, Mathis By TELECON: Wolfire, Wolff, Clemens, Stolovy, Marston Web page design & maintenance: No objections to paying Wendy Ashman from portion of E/PO money for a public web site and logo design. So far we have 4 designs for logo: cheese wedge, glider, cheeseless edge-on galaxy, pole-on galaxy. Acronym: The team voted for Extraordinaire as the last word. I didn't write the count down but it was something like 8+/-3 to 4+/-2. Ed did not veto -- what a guy! Ed sent out a task schedule with names on it. Look it over. We need images for the image library. LSWG/IG: Reps to IRAC-IG are Barb and Chip. Collaboration with Fazio Group. SSC will use Fazio's software in their pipeline for latent images. We might be able to get it from them directly though it might not be necessary. Overlaps with GTOs: Ed talked to all GTOs. It is only defined as overlap if separate projects are within an order of magnitude of each other (e.g., observing time); so technically we have no overlaps but Ed contacted them anyway and they have no problem. Team overlaps: think about what we have to offer other groups and what we can get from them. We can offer the Zodi model after Mark gets permission from Ned Wright. We can offer the AOR automated writer that Chip and Christer are writing. Progress on Zodi Model: Mark sent figures of zodi light and discussed it. There were questions about it, and my intuition tells me the figures will be improved next week (or perhaps these minutes were written a week late when the new figures arrived). Mark plans to document the code. and he still wants to figure out what happens when SIRTF goes through the dust ring. Progress on Database-- Database schema is in design for Level A-C. current plan is to use perl scripts to access. ShowStation Option for 13 Apr meeting: we can submit microsoft presentations to Susan or someone at SSC ahead of time. Use conference calls to participate. no video conferencing. just need a terminal and netscape. Susan reserved it for 11:30 am Pac. time, or 1:30 CST on Apr. 13, for several hours (I think). IRS problems: long-wave filter has only 70% transmission. Send comments on how it will affect community by Thurs at latest. How does it affect followup studies on our project? Project variances: can we map full 240 sq. deg to within 10%? We think so. Tony says, don't take spot as gospel. Assume the numbers it gives us and it won't be a problem if it turns out to be off by more than 10%. Also, not producing the diffuse source catalog probably won't be seen as a problem. They seem more interested in variances in the observing plan itself. Special session at AAS in June for SIRTF. 90 min. session, divided into 15 min for each team. Ed needs to send in title for talk by Mar. 15 to SSC. Martin Cohen wants to write an LTSA proposal tied to our project. no problems with us. Jim Jackson wrote one last year but that should be no conflict with this year.
