Teleconference Minutes for Friday, Dec. 1 2000
Present in Madison:
Benjamin, Whitney, Churchwell, Mathis, Kobulnicky
Also Stephan Jansen
By Phone: Wolfire, Wolff, Seager, Clemens
Budgets:
Ed's conversation with T. Soifer
we have to work with about $186,00 per six-month period for the first year
Current launch July 2002
Computer Issues:
SSC is a Solaris operation but will support LINUX
Choice for hardware driven by Oracle; compilers learning toward Sun. But
this machine need not be our data cruncher. We could do data
processing in a distributed fashion; Stephan was optimistic that
the ethernet structure at UW would support that kind of data
transfer.
Postdoc Hire:
Daniel Dale would likely be on Kennicutt's team primarily
Survey Planning Team
Computer Team:
1) explore whether additional Oracle modules will work
under linux or if the one is all we need
2) Come up with a recommendation for first computer purchase, presumably
a Solaris machine that is expandable (this probably renders #1 above
moot.)
Survey Planning Team
1) Meet Thursday night in Pasadena (Churchwell, Clemens, Kobulnicky)
2) Prepare an automated way to construct AORs with SSC
All
1) Consider other postdocs we could hire
